Can I Still Pass This Class?
Use your current grade and remaining work to see whether your passing target is realistic.
Passing depends on what is left
A low current grade can still be recoverable if enough points or category weight remains. A high required score can mean the target is out of reach without extra credit.
Method
Compare your current grade, passing target, and the weight of remaining assignments or the final exam. The remaining work must be large enough to change the overall grade.
Example: If you have a 62%, need a 70%, and the final is worth 30%, the final exam score needed tells you whether passing is realistic.
Common mistakes
- Waiting until too little graded work remains.
- Forgetting missing assignments that still count as zero.
- Assuming extra credit is available before checking with the teacher.
FAQ
What if I need more than 100%?
The target may not be possible without extra credit, replacement grades, or changed assignment scores.
Should I use current grade or category grade?
Use the number your class gradebook uses for the overall current grade.
What should I do if the target is too high?
Ask about missing work, retakes, extra credit, or whether a lower realistic target still helps.
