How Test Grades Are Calculated

A test grade is usually calculated by dividing the score earned by the total possible score. If the test is based on questions, correct answers are divided by total questions.

Test grade = Score earned / Score possible x 100

Worked Examples

If you miss 5 questions on a 40-question test, you got 35 correct. That score is 35 / 40 x 100 = 87.5%.

If you earn 42 points out of 50, your test grade is 42 / 50 x 100 = 84%.
